A Glimpse of Air Chathams and the Chathams Airport

John O'Connor, the Catholic parish priest of Sockburn parish in Christchurch is also the parish priest of the Chatham Islands... he took these photos after going out to do the Christmas Masses on the Chathams...

Unfortunately Cessna 206 ZK-KAI remained closed up on the hangar so a desperation shot.

Convair 580 ZK-580 being readied for the flight to Christchurch.

The terminal facilities...

Empty fish crates waiting for the fish to fly to the mainland.
 The terminal and local vehicles...

Inside the terminal...

Inside the plane.

  1. Ah Yes.
    The elusive ZK-KAI.
It only comes out to play as required. It is kept out of the weather, especially the wind & salty air as much as possible.
I have seen it in the same spot many times since its arrival there in August of 1999. My best shot to date is no better.
